The day went quite easily, I thought, as I looked at my watch and entered the society gate. Got into the lift & immediately got my keys out. Hey, I wanted to get in quickly - my favourite show was going to play in a minute!

Entered. Flipped the switch to “on”. And… Nothing! No lights! “These MSEB people are impossible”, I said to myself. Dejected, I put some tea on the gas. At least something doesn’t need electricity!

Somehow, the word ‘impossible’ caught my attention. It’s the third time in the same day that I used this word.

Let me take you back through the day…

In the afternoon, I needed some material on motivational training and attitude. But nothing clicked. And when nothing clicks in my head, next best bet - the internet! As I was browsing, Raghavv (my colleague) walked up to me and said, “Watch ‘Nick – the limbless man’”. I quickly found, downloaded and watched the video. It was really great; it actually gave me goose bumps while I was watching it. I felt empowered. I thought to myself, “I’m as fit as a human being can be. I should be able to perform wonders if this man can do what he can”. I felt really motivated and decided, “Nothing is impossible – all you have to do is try.” Being happy with the video, I added it on to my presentation and got back to work.

After a while, we were chatting away, recalling our experiences while training, when Raghavv got up & went to the store room. He came back with a table tennis ball and a spoon with him. Keeping the ball on the ground, he gave me the spoon and dared me to pick the ball up with the spoon in my mouth. I was not allowed to use any other parts of my body for this activity.

I looked at him, and stared, and gawking said, “No, it’s too difficult, I can’t do it.” To which he said, “At least try it once. Let’s make it a little easier”. He picked up the ball, placed it on the table and asked me to try again. This time I took the spoon and gave it a shot. I wasn’t able to pick up the ball, though, and gave the spoon back. Raghav smirked and said, “You didn’t give it a 100%”. I laughed at that, and completely ignoring him, went back to my system, checked my mails and left for the day.

Now I am complaining about the MSEB being impossible.

Think about it. I watch a video of a limbless man taking challenges and decide “Nothing is impossible – all you have to do is try.” And when I was challenged, I gave up without even trying.

I took a sip of my tea, and this time I made a promise to myself – I will always make an attempt before I utter the word “IMPOSSIBLE”.

Picked the phone, called MSEB. Insisted on a complaint number. 20 minutes, and the lights are back. See? I made an attempt.

Hmmm… This is a good start!!!!!!
